Mushoku Tensei Season 3 Character Death List: Who Dies and Ultimate Spoilers Explained

If there is one thing I have learned from following Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation, it is that this story never treats death as a cheap plot device. When somebody dies, it matters. The consequences can follow Rudeus Greyrat for years, sometimes changing the way he thinks, fights, and even sees his own life.

That is exactly why the question of who dies in Mushoku Tensei Season 3 and beyond has become such a huge topic among anime fans. People who have only watched the anime are understandably nervous about what is coming, while light novel and web novel readers already know just how painful the later story becomes.

And yes, there are some major deaths ahead.

But there is also a lot of misinformation floating around online. Some characters who are said to die actually survive the main timeline, while several horrific deaths that fans remember come from an alternate future that is ultimately erased.

So, with major spoilers ahead, let’s sort out the real character deaths in Mushoku Tensei, the natural deaths that happen much later, and the terrifying Oldeus timeline that could have destroyed Rudeus’s entire family.

Paul Greyrat: The Death That Changes Rudeus Forever

For many anime viewers, Paul Greyrat’s death is still one of the hardest moments in the entire series.

Paul dies during the Teleportation Labyrinth incident while fighting the Hydra. Rudeus and Paul are both trying to rescue Zenith, but the situation becomes increasingly desperate. When the Hydra launches a lethal attack, Paul sacrifices himself to save his son.

His death is brutal. Rudeus survives, but Paul does not.

What makes the scene so effective is that Paul does not simply die because the story needs an emotional moment. His entire relationship with Rudeus has been complicated from the beginning. They have argued, disappointed each other, forgiven each other, and slowly rebuilt their bond.

Then, just when Rudeus and Paul have managed to become something close to a real father and son, Paul is gone.

Rudeus is devastated.

His father’s death contributes heavily to the depression that follows the labyrinth incident and forces Rudeus to confront a reality he has spent much of his second life avoiding: people he loves can disappear permanently.

This is why Paul’s death remains one of the most important turning points in the story.

Pax Shirone’s Tragic Fate

Pax is one of those characters I think becomes much more interesting when you know where his story eventually goes.

At first, he is easy to dislike. He is arrogant, cruel, and behaves like someone who believes his royal position makes him untouchable. But Mushoku Tensei has a habit of taking characters who look simple at first and giving their actions much darker consequences.

Pax eventually attempts to create his own political future and seize control of the Shirone Kingdom. His plans are manipulated by forces connected to Hitogami, and the situation collapses around him.

When Pax realizes that his dream has effectively been destroyed and that he has been used as a pawn, he takes his own life by jumping from a tower.

His death is especially important because Pax’s survival is connected to the larger balance of the world and the future of Laplace.

It is not one of the deaths that receives the same attention as Paul’s, but its consequences are surprisingly important.

Geese Nwazul Becomes a Major Enemy

Geese, or Gisu, is another character whose eventual fate hits differently once you know his entire story.

For a long time, he comes across as a relatively harmless, funny, gambling-loving Demon race character. He even assists Rudeus and Paul during their journey through the Demon Continent.

Then the truth comes out.

Geese is an apostle of Hitogami, and his loyalty to the Human God is much stronger than his friendship with Rudeus.

This eventually places him directly against the Greyrat family and Orsted’s faction.

During the Battle of Biheiril Kingdom, Geese becomes one of the key enemies standing against Rudeus and his allies. He ultimately suffers a fatal injury and dies while remaining loyal to Hitogami.

Personally, I think Geese’s death is one of the more bittersweet moments in the later story. He is not secretly evil in the traditional sense. His choices are driven by gratitude toward the being who once saved him, even though that loyalty eventually puts him on the opposite side of Rudeus.

Badigadi and the Fighting God

Badigadi is a completely different case.

The immortal Demon King is incredibly difficult to kill in the conventional sense, and that becomes extremely important when Hitogami’s plans eventually place him inside the Fighting God Armor.

Once Badigadi becomes the Fighting God, he transforms into one of the most terrifying opponents Rudeus and Orsted ever face.

The battle is on another level entirely.

Rather than simply killing Badigadi, the heroes eventually have to deal with the problem of his immortality. His fate is therefore better described as being defeated and permanently removed from the active conflict rather than a straightforward death.

This distinction matters because Mushoku Tensei has several characters whose supernatural nature makes the usual concept of death much more complicated.

Who Dies of Old Age in Mushoku Tensei?

One of the things I genuinely appreciate about Mushoku Tensei is that it does not pretend its characters will remain young forever.

Rudeus’s story is ultimately a life story.

That means we eventually see characters reach old age and die naturally rather than being killed by an enemy.

Eris Greyrat

Eris remains one of Rudeus’s strongest supporters throughout her life. Even as she gets older, she continues training and refuses to completely abandon the warrior lifestyle that defined her youth.

Eventually, however, age catches up with her.

Eris dies at around 74 years old, peacefully reaching the end of a life spent fighting, protecting, and loving Rudeus.

For a character as aggressive and energetic as Eris, there is something strangely fitting about her final fate being the simple consequence of growing old.

Rudeus Greyrat

And then comes the death that closes the main story of Rudeus’s life.

Rudeus dies at approximately 74 years old from natural causes.

That might sound anticlimactic after everything he survives, but I actually think it fits the entire message of Mushoku Tensei.

His first life ended with regret, isolation, and wasted potential.

His second life ends completely differently.

He has a family. He has children and grandchildren. He has friends, enemies, achievements, failures, and memories. Most importantly, he has finally lived the life he always wanted.

Rudeus does not die as the lonely man he once was.

He dies knowing that his second life meant something.

What Happens to Sylphiette and Roxy?

This is where many online spoiler discussions become confusing.

Sylphiette and Roxy do not die before Rudeus in the main timeline.

Sylphiette’s Elven heritage gives her a considerably longer lifespan than an ordinary human, while Roxy is a Migurd and can live for centuries.

So when Rudeus eventually dies, both women survive him.

Roxy in particular has an almost heartbreaking fate because she continues living long after her human husband is gone.

For me, this is one of the saddest details in the entire ending. Rudeus gets the peaceful conclusion he wanted, but the people who loved him do not all get to leave the world at the same time.

The Oldeus Timeline: The Deaths That Almost Happened

Now we reach the really dark stuff.

If you have searched for Mushoku Tensei character deaths on Reddit, YouTube, TikTok, or fan forums, you have probably encountered claims that Roxy, Sylphiette, and Eris all die horribly.

There is truth behind those spoilers.

But there is an extremely important catch.

Those deaths happen in the Oldeus alternate timeline.

In the future shown through the events surrounding Volume 14, an older version of Rudeus travels back through time after experiencing an absolutely horrific future.

Oldeus has lost almost everything.

Roxy’s Death

In this alternate future, Hitogami’s manipulation results in Roxy becoming infected with a deadly petrification disease while pregnant.

She dies alongside her unborn child.

This becomes the event that begins Rudeus’s complete psychological collapse.

Sylphiette’s Death

After Roxy’s death, Rudeus becomes emotionally distant and increasingly self-destructive.

Sylphiette eventually becomes involved in a failed political uprising connected to Ariel.

She is captured and executed by hanging.

By this point, the Oldeus timeline has essentially become a nightmare version of the life Rudeus could have lived.

Eris’s Final Battle

Eris remains fiercely loyal even in this broken future.

When assassins attack Rudeus, she fights to protect him.

She ultimately dies while shielding him from the attackers.

And that is the horrifying part: even after Rudeus has become a broken, alcoholic version of himself, Eris still chooses to protect him.

Why These Deaths Do Not Happen in the Main Timeline

The entire point of Oldeus returning to the past is to prevent this future from happening.

Oldeus gives the younger Rudeus his diary, revealing exactly how Hitogami’s plans destroyed his life.

Then he dies after completing his mission.

Armed with information about the future, Rudeus changes his decisions.

The result is enormous.

The deaths of Roxy, Sylphiette, and Eris from the Oldeus timeline are prevented.

That means fans should be very careful when somebody posts a “Mushoku Tensei death list” without explaining which timeline they are talking about.

The Real Mushoku Tensei Death List

If you want the short version, this is the easiest way to separate the timelines:

What This Means for Mushoku Tensei Season 3

If you’re heading into Mushoku Tensei Season 3 without reading the novels, I would honestly recommend avoiding the deepest spoilers unless you’re comfortable knowing where Rudeus’s entire life eventually goes.

Season 3 does not simply continue the adventure after Paul’s death. It builds on the emotional damage left behind by the previous arcs while pushing Rudeus toward increasingly complicated political, personal, and supernatural conflicts.

And that is what makes Mushoku Tensei different from many other isekai stories.

The biggest danger is not always the next monster.

Sometimes it is a decision.

Sometimes it is trusting the wrong person.

And sometimes the worst possible future is not destiny at all — it is simply the result of making the wrong choices.

That is why the Oldeus storyline is so important. It shows us exactly what Rudeus’s life could have become.

The main timeline gives him something much more valuable: a chance to choose differently.

For me, that is ultimately what makes the deaths in Mushoku Tensei hit so hard. Paul dies and Rudeus has to keep moving. Eris eventually dies of old age after living the life she chose. Rudeus himself eventually reaches the natural end of his second life.

Death is never completely erased from the story.

But neither is the possibility of change.

And if Studio Bind continues adapting the story with the same care, the emotional weight of these future events could make the upcoming seasons some of the most memorable material in the entire anime.
